Our Crew

At Sandpiper Charters we believe that sport fishing is more than just a business. Taking people out to catch fish is really just our way of being able to share what we love most about the beautiful waters of Lake Huron.

CAPTAIN MIKE MORGAN

Captain Mike Morgan
Captain Mike has fished the waters of beautiful Lake Huron for 28 years.  Spending much of this time on the waters off the coast of Port Austin and Grindstone, Captain Mike has  the experience to know where the fish are, and where they're not. Captain Mike is a Coast Guard Licensed Captain and also owns M&D Marine in Port Austin where he sells tackle, marine supplies, and repairs boats. Feel free to give Mike a call at 239-246-7101 with any questions you might have.

First Mate

First Mates
Captain Mike has three first mates helping him throughout the season. Each one has over 16 years experience fishing on Lake Huron for Lake, Walleye, Salmon and Steelhead.  This trifecta of experience is one of our biggest asset in setting up, catching and landing your fish!

Our Vessel

The Sandpiper is a 28 foot Marinette Sport Fisherman with bridge, twin inboards and a spacious cabin that can comfortably accommodate 6 people. If you have more than 6 people in your party, we can arrange to have additional charter boats available for you.
The Sandpiper has a large fishing deck which is great for reeling in your catch. It also has a bridge that allows you to observe and take pictures of the anglers catching fish.
Fully equipped with all of the latest electronics, 24 mile GPS radar, electronic down riggers, color video fish sonar, and ship to shore radios, as well as a cell phone, the Sandpiper exceeds all safety standards required by law and is ideally suited for fishing the Port Austin area of Lake Huron. For your convenience, there is also a head (toilet) available for your use if needed.
When the Sandpiper is not out on the water, she is moored at M&D Marine, which is owned and operated by Captain Mike and located at 115 E Spring Street in Port Austin, MI.

Our Waters

Located off the north end of the Saginaw Bay, the waters hold an abundance of sport fish that feed off the bait that the bay supplies. From May through September, Lake Trout can be caught in the cold waters that the lake provides. From the last week of June through July, Walleye can be caught in the warmer, shallower waters of the natural reefs that the coast has to offer.
